Conversation with Isabel on Scripture

The second part of my recent, ongoing conversation with Isabel, a fellow spiritual seeker, with an ambivalent relationship with the catholic Christianity she grew up with. We focus in on questions of truth and narrative, doubt and testimony, with regard to the “sacred writings” that possibly inform faith, in this case the “scriptures” that Christians read to form and sustain their faith in Jesus Christ. Although we come at this conversation from different current places–and therefore end up in different places–there is significant overlap in our questions and intuitions about the “ancient sacred” as it is handed down to us in stories and narratives.
